Mangaluru: A M Athaulla, District Chief Secretary of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) said, “Ashraf (35) was hacked to death in broad daylight at Benjanapadavu of Bantwal on June 21. The murder of Ashraf was by the Sangh Parivar. In connection to the murder, police have arrested 7 accused. It is also learnt that police have filed a weak FIR in the case due to political pressure.”

He also said, “Though the police know that Dr. Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat and Bajrang Dal leader Sharan Pumpwell are behind the murder, they are not arresting them. The SDPI will hold intense protest against this. It is clear that Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat is behind several incidents of communal violence, stabbing and murder incidents in the district. Hence police department should arrest Prabhakar Bhat and Sharan Pumpwell by July 15, if not SDPI will hold Kalladka Chalo.

District Secretary Iqbal Bellare and others were present during the press meet.
