Sensible Konaje police thwart ‘moral policing’ bid by right wing activists

Mangaluru: In a rather shameful incident for the right wing activists who have been barging into private space of individuals in the region, a tip off to police that a couple from different communities are put up in a hotel room, ultimately resulted in ‘moral police’ losing their face.
However, without succumbing to the pressure from the right wing, the Konaje police who acted swiftly found that the two students put up in a lodge were cousins and had inevitably remained in a lodge on Monday. The police foiled a ‘unwarranted raid’ by the right wing which is often aimed at safeguarding the Hindu girls.

The incident occurred at Deralakatte within the limits of Konaje police station. The girl in question, hailing from Puttur had completed her MBA and was supposed to vacate the hostel room on Monday. However, since she had an interview to appear for on Tuesday at Manipal, she and her cousin, hailing from Kerala remained in a local lodge. As the boy felt it was unsafe for her stay there alone, he accompanied her.

Some mischief mongers misled the right wing activists stating that the two hailed from different communities and within no time large number of activists came together in front of Mehraj Lodge at Deralakatte.

However, the activists were left red faced when the police reached the spot and on questioning the couple, they found that the two were not just cousins, but were staying in the lodge with permission from their parents.

Several attempts from the activists to get the couple into their custody failed as the Konaje police shielded the couple and took them away for safety.

No case was registered about this incident with the police.
