Mangaluru: With an aim to gain momentum and make the agitation against the controversial Yettinahole Integrated Drinking Water Project more intense, several organizations have decided to come together and protest for a single cause.
Various organizations have come under one name Netravati Nadhi Samrakshana Okkuta (Save Netravati River Union) and have jointly made a decision to choose Dr Niranjan Rai as the convener of the Okkuta and leaders of various organizations as assistant conveners.
Addressing a press meet on Friday October 2, Dr Niranjan Rai said, “Netravati Samrakshana Okkuta will hold ‘rasta roko’ and ‘jail bharo’, protesting against the ongoing Yettinahole project on October 15, at Mahaveer circle at 10:30 am. People from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts will take part in the protest.
“All gram panchayats and taluk panchayats in Dakshina Kannada should pass a resolution against the project. If any of the panchayats fail to do so, our committees will protest in front of those panchayats. Currently, 43 panchayats have passed the resolution, we request others to do so by November 15,” he said.
Activist Dinesh Holla of Sahyadri Samrakshana Sanchaya and Shashidar Shetty were also present during the meet. They informed that a team from the region of Kolar and Chikkaballapur will be visiting Dakshina Kannada district to study this project and then convince the people about the realities of the project, they said.
