Sharath case: Police arrest reporter for communally inciting write-up

Bantwal: The Bantwal police arrested a news reporter working with a local newspaper for his alleged writings in news columns, which according to them could have flared-up communal violence.

The reporter had stated in his write-up few days ago that the police had barged into the residence of one of the accused in Sharath Madival murder case and ransacked the house in the name of searching the house to dig out crucial evidences.

The family members of the accused named Khalander, who hails from Panolibail of Sajipa Munnur Village had then alleged that in the name of searching the houses, the police had resorted to throwing away the Holy Quran and also torn away several religious books.

Based on the instruction of Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Sudhir Kumar Reddy, police took reporter Imtiaz Shah into custody from a location near Akkarangadi mosque in Panemangalore limits on September 7 evening.

After preliminary investigation, they produced him in the court which remanded him to judicial custody on September 8.
