Belthangady: Due to short circuit, the forest area in Yermal near Bangadi, was engulfed in fire, here on Friday, February 22.

The fire was so devastating that it charred hundreds of trees within a couple of minutes.

A rise in temperature fuelled the intensity of the incident.

The fire also damaged the electric transformers, leaving MESCOM (Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited) with a huge repair burden and monetary losses.

The firefighters with the help of the locals finally brought the fire under control.
