Kasaragod: As many as 16 youth from Kasaragod district are suspected to have joined terror outfit Islamic State (IS). It is learnt that six of them are from Kasaragod and rest of them hail from Palakkad.
For the last one month there has been no information from them about their whereabouts. A text message received by one of the relatives of a suspect, said, “We have joined IS terror outfit and we will sacrifice our life to God”. Among the six, a couple from Padanna, Trikkaripura is also said to have joined the terror outfit.
It is suspected that they might have left to Iraq, Syria or Afghanistan.
Four women, two children, a doctor and an engineer are among the 16 missing people. They left the district on June 6 on a tour and later reportedly escaped abroad. For the last one month, their mobiles have been switched off, reports said.
The representatives of Kasaragod have urged the Chief Minister Pinarai Vijayan to conduct an enquiry in this regard. Even State MP P Karunakaran has informed the Central leaders who have reportedly began an enquiry into the case, sources said.
