Mangaluru: With an intention to create awareness on eye donation, the South Kanara Ophthalmic Society in association with Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) organized, “The Gift of Sight”, a five-kilometer Run and two-kilometer Walkathon here on Sunday, September 2.
The South Kanara Ophthalmic Society President Sudhir Hegde flagged off 5 Kilometer Run and Harish Baliga, Manager at MRPL flagged off for 2 Kilometer Walkathon from the in-front of Mangaluru City Corporation.
Speaking to media, Society President Dr. Sudhir Hegde informed that the intention of organizing the “The Gift of Sight” run and walkathon is to create awareness on eye donation and to eradicate the misconception on eye donation.
“South Kanara Ophthalmic Society has organised this run and walkathon involving all medical colleges in the district on creating awareness on eye donation and also aims at strengthening the eye bank network in the Dakshina Kannada.” Sudhir Hegde said.
“The Gift of Sight” run and walkathon was started from Mangaluru City Corporation and culminate at Nehru Maidan.
“The Gift of Sight” was supported by the AJ Hospital and Research Centre, Yenepoya University, Srinivas Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Kanachur Hospital, Father Muller Charitable Institutions, Manipal Hospitals, KSHEMA, Rotary International, Round Table, Samvitti Capital, Bharath Auto Cars Limited, Abharan Jewellers, Marian Builders, Citadel Developers and Zeusse Fitness Gym.
Dr. Sai Giridhar state president of Ophthalmic Society, Dr. Ajay Kudva, and Dr. Vikram Jain were present at the event.
