Mangaluru: A new building of Snehalaya Charitable Trust at Manjeshwar in Kerala, a prominent NGO which has rescued more than 700 destitute from in and around Mangaluru was inaugurated on Saturday, January 26.
Aishal Foundation Chairman Abdul Latheef inaugurated the newly built Snehalaya Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Asylum for Women. Meanwhile, Mangaluru Bishop Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha blessed the newly built chapel and Bishop of Bareilly diocese Dr. Ignatius D’Souza blessed the newly built Snehalaya Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Asylum for Women. Head of Capuchin Friary, Bejai Fr. Melwyn Paul D’Souza blessed the grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes.
As the Snehalaya Charitable Trust is also observing its decennial year celebration this year, a decennial souvenir was released by Fr. Sebastian Chalackappally, Vicar of Alphonsa Church, Kankanady. NRI entrepreneur and philanthropist Michael D’Souza inaugurated the Snehalaya dining hall.
After inaugurating the new building, Abdul Lathif said, “Joseph’s charity works are ideal for the people. God knows the burdens and problems of his creatures. He decides how to help them. Hence God chose Joseph to take care of his creatures. People must extend their helping hand towards Joseph”, he said.
While addressing the gathering, Bishop of Bareilly diocese Dr. Ignatius D’Souza lauded the efforts of Snehalaya founder Joseph Crasta in uplifting the life of destitute. He said, “Joseph and his team are contributing much for the society through Snehalaya. One can witness that the service comes from the heart in Snehalaya. People can experience the religion of love, peace and humanity”, he said.
Presiding over the programme, Mangaluru Bishop Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha said, “Joseph and his family are spreading and sharing the love and blessings of God. Definitely, Joseph and his team’s charity work will inspire many”, he said.
NRI entrepreneur and philanthropist Michael D’Souza said, “People should thank Joseph Crasta and family for their service and dedication towards society and we should follow their footsteps”, he said.
Meanwhile, the donors and guests were felicitated at the programme.

Roy Mathew Vadakkal, Parish Priest, St. Lawrence Church, Bondel, Fr. Andrew Leo D Souza, Parish Priest of Holy Cross Church, Pavoor, Fr. Varghese Chakkala, Provincial Councillor and Superior of St. Ann’s Friary, Fr. Paul Melwyn D Souza, Manjeshwar Panchayat President Abdul Aziz Haji, Abdul Rauf Puthige, former president, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Roy Castelino were present along with Ummer Saheb, Fr. Carnelio Montiero, Sidhique Ajman, Z A Kayyar and Ummer Uppala among others were present.
