Mangaluru: Sudha, a sniffer dog who had supported police investigations in the region for a decade, passed away on Saturday July 24 due to cancer, according to police sources.

In the presence of city police commissioner N Shashi Kumar and DCP Hariram Shankar, the canine’s funeral was held with police honours.

For eleven years, the detective dog had served the Mangaluru city police commissionerate and had assisted in the solving of over 700 cases.

The dog had developed a tumour a few months ago and her condition got worse in the last week. She hadn’t eaten in two days and died on Saturday morning.

The Doberman Pinscher was just one-year-old puppy when she joined the police force on April 2, 2021.

N Shashi Kumar, the city police commissioner, said the city police force has five sniffer dogs, two of which are in training and one of which has died.
