St. Aloysius’ State Level Chess-Tournament 2017-18 concludes

Mangaluru: The curtains came down on the three-day State-Level Chess Tournament 2017-18, held at the St. Aloysius Higher Primary School.

The tournament was organised by the St. Aloysius Higher Primary School, Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, Department of Public Instructions’ Office of the Block Education Officer, Mangaluru, North Range jointly from October 10 to 12 at the Fiona Memorial Hall here.

The results of state Level Chess-Tournament as follows:

In the under-17 (girls) category, the winners are Tanisha Gotadke of Dr. G V Rottary EM School Hubli, Priyanka Narayan of Fathima Convent High School, Kushalanagar, Kodagu, Ashwini K of VKR Acharaya Memorial EM High School Kundapur, Afreen Tabassum of Nalanda High School, Tumkur and Shriya R Revankar of Dr. G V Joshi Rottary EMHS, Hubli.

In the under-17 (boys) category the winners are Shashank Bhat of G S Vivekananda Schoo,l Puttur, Shreyas Kulkarni of St. Mary’s High School, Belagavi, Arjun Rao K of SDM EM School, Ujire, Anand Sullad of N K Thakkar High School, Hubli and Manoj B Kulkarni of St. Mary’s High School, Angol.

In the under-14 (boys) category, the winners are Shiva Chetana Halamane of Vivekananda EM School, Puttur, Shrikrishna Parandama of M U Sudana Residential School, Puttur, Pankaj Bhat of Vivekananda School, Puttur, Prajwal M Joshi of M V Herwadkar EM High School, Belgaum, Rishab Hangal of Baala Baal Srujana Sheela School of Dharwad.

In under-14 (girls) category, Deepthi Lakshmi K Vivekananda of EMS Puttur, Dhanyashree of Elite School, Hassan, Kushi M Hombal of Poorna Prajna School Bhadravathi, Vinutha M Devadiga of Pragathi Composite School, Sagara and Srujana C Bhandary.

During the valedictory programme, the St. Aloysius Higher Primary School staff and PTA members were honoured for their immense efforts in organising this chess tournament successfully.

Cypriyan Monterio, Principal of District Education and Training Centre; Rev. Fr. Eric Mathais, Convener of St. Aloysius Higher Primary School; Raghunath, District Physical Education Officer; Pradeep D’Souza, Deputy Director, Youth Empowerment and Sports Department; Loy Noronha, Vice president of PTA, St. Aloysius Higher Primary School and others were present in the programme.

In his address, Rev Fr. Eric Mathias said that the programme was successfully organised because of the immense efforts of the staff and PTA members.

He also called upon the students to always think on how to be happy, to concentrate and to cultivate patience in life. The government has provided better facilities to students and they should utilise these facilities, he added.

Arun Baptist, Physical Education Teacher of St. Aloysius Higher Primary School proposed a vote of thanks.
