Mangaluru: In his maiden visit to the district after being chosen as the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, MLC Udupi Kota Srinivas Poojary on Saturday, July 7 stated that the budget presented by the Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) coalition government was focussed on four districts and JDS MLAs.

Stating that Chief Minister Kumaraswamy has shown stepmotherly treatment towards the coastal districts in the budget, Srinivas Poojary said, “All MLAs of coastal Karnataka will form a forum and hold a protest against the state government for the step-motherly treatment shown towards the coast. We will raise our voices against this injustice in both houses of the Vidhana Soudha.”

The Chief Minister overlooked the needs of the fishermen in the coastal belt who were eagerly awaiting announcements of works like the jetty construction and dredging, among others.

He alleged that the budget lacks any vision and attacked the chief minister for burdening the middle-class people by hiking fuel and electricity prices to fund the loan waiver for farmers.

Speaking to media persons, Kota Srinivas Poojary also highlighted that though the previous Congress government had opened 252 Indira Canteens throughout the state, only 73 canteens are functioning. He also said that considering the differences between the coalition partners, he was not sure if the programmes announced by former chief minister Siddaramaiah would be implemented earnestly.
