Mangaluru: The ‘Karnataka State Muay Thai Championship’ was flagged off by Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil at the Officer’s Club, Lalbagh on Sunday, October 7. The competition is organised by the Dakshina Kannada District Muay Thai Association and jointly hosted by Monkey Mayhem Fight Club and Fitness Centre.
This is the first time that the Muay Thai Association of Karnataka (MAK) has hosted such a combat sports event in any of the coastal districts. High-level Muay Thai fighters from across the state will be participating in the Karnataka State Muay Thai Championship.
“In our lives, martial art is very important as it can make a huge difference in the way one lives,” the DC said in his address to the gathering and then wished all the participants the very best.
Speaking about the martial art Muay Thai, national coach Balakrishna Shetty said that it is an art of eight limbs. “It is a practical art of self-defence where the knee and elbows are the lethal weapons,” he said.
MAK is conducting this tournament as sanctioned by the United Amateur Muay Thai Association of India (UAMAI), with the aim to select and delegate the strongest team from the state for the UAMAI National Muay Thai Championship 2018 being held between November 14 and 18 in Pune, Maharashtra.
Former MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik, MCC joint commissioner Gokuldas Nayak, honourable president Muay Thai Association of Karnataka Sadananda Shetty, president Rajgopal Rai, vice-president of District Muay Thai Association Elias Sanctis, Mandd Sobhann president Louis Pinto and others were present.
