Stone pelting on Sharath’s funeral procession pre-planned by outsiders: SP

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Sudhir Reddy said that the stone pelting incidents in B C Road and Kaikamba during funeral procession of RSS activist Sharath Madiwala was pre-planned.

Speaking to media persons SP who was at the spot said that the number of arrests related to stone pelting incident has gone to 13 and three more suspects were taken into custody on Saturday night.

He further said, “This is a pre-planned incident. Three suspects who are taken into custody are from other state. They were supported by some locals. “

Over 1300 police personnel have been deputed in tense areas. A meeting will be held between SP and the DC following stone pelting and decision will be taken regarding future course of action. A peace meeting between all the religion heads will also be called, he added.

Stones as well as soda bottles were pelted at the police deployed in the region to maintain security here at Kaikamba, BC Road as the funeral procession of RSS activist Sharath Madiwala passed through the area injuring one person on Saturday. Some vehicles were damaged and glass panes of an ATM outlet too was shattered in this incident. A video of some miscreants collecting stones and storing inside the cars also went viral on the same day and the police have been investigating to it.

A 28-year-old Sharath, an RSS worker was assaulted by unidentified men on July 4. He was shifted to hospital by his friend, Abdul Rahouf, fruit stall vendor who has known Sharath for nearly 14 years. However Sharath succumbed to injuries on Friday evening after battling for life for three days.

The prohibitory orders were initially enforced in Dakshina Kannada on May 27 following clash between two groups. A SDPI member was murdered on June 21 which further escalated the tension and the authorities have extended the prohibitory orders.
