Mangaluru: The Gau Samrakshana Prakosta, a wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party, demanded the government to enforce Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act, 1964 and the prevention of Animal Sacrifice Act 1959 which prohibits “Qurbani” strictly, ahead of the Bakrid celebrations in the state.

Speaking at a press meet here on August 13, State Co-convener of Gau Samrakshana Prakosta, Vinay L Shetty said, “In 2015, the state government had issued a circular to all the deputy commissioners in the state to strictly prevent animal sacrifice by forming a committee. As recently as July 21, 2018, the state government had issued a circular to all the DCs to implement the law that prevents Qurbani,” he added.

Condemning the rampant cattle theft in the coastal district, Vinay said, “Chief Minister Kumaraswamy, who shows concern for farmers by sowing paddy saplings, should also provide a proper compensation to the farmers whose cattle have been stolen.” He also demanded to book cattle thieves under Goonda Act or their externment from the district.

Gau Samrakshana Prakosta District Convener Ganesh R B and others were present.
