Sudhana declared the best environmental friendly school in DK

Puttur: Sudhana School in Puttur was declared the “Best Environmental Friendly School” for its green initiative in Dakshina Kannada (DK) district at a glittering ceremony at Nethravathi auditorium of DK Zilla Panchayat on March 3.

Giving away the prizes in different categories, B Ramanatha Rai, Minister of Forests, appreciated the efforts of schools in promoting environmental awareness among children through action in their premises. He said state sponsored “Chinna Vana Darshana” programme will be extended to primary schools and appreciated the works of school eco clubs. Plenty of opportunities exist for each individual to do something in return for environmental cause, Minister Rai stated.

The well attended ceremony was organised by Karanataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) in association with Department of Public Instruction and Karanataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat had many takeaways in terms of achievements.

Sudhana School (Puttur )– Best environmental friendly school received a cash award of Rs 30000.

Green Schools: 10 schools were declared as green schools in the district and each school received a cash award of Rs 5000 in this category.

Yellow schools: 10 schools were declared yellow schools and each school received a cash award of Rs 4000 in this category.

Puttur taluk walking away with 13 awards out of 21 proved that it is way ahead of the rest of the seven taluks in the district in creating awareness among children and taking measures to protect environment.

The government schools performed very well, leaving many private schools way behind for them to introspect on their concerns towards environment.

None from Mangaluru taluk figured in the list!
