Poisonous gas inhalation suspected: Five fish factory workers die in M’luru

Mangaluru: Five workers died in a fishmeal processing factory in the Mangalore special economic zone (MSEZ) under the Bajpe Police Station limits due to a suspected poisonous gas inhalation on the evening of Sunday April 17.

According to sources, Nizamuddin (19), Umar Farooq, and Samiulla, all from West Bengal, have been identified as the deceased workers.

As man as eight workers were affected while working at a fish waste dump tank, informed Mangaluru Police Commissioner N. Shashi Kumar. He also said that he had received information that five of these workers had died.

According to the Compol, one person collapsed suddenly, and the seven personnel who tried to save him were also affected.

Three people are said to be in serious condition and fighting for their lives at the AJ Hospital.

Meanwhile, the factory has been shut down by the authorities.

Senior police officers and personnel from the Panambur and Bajpe police stations have visited the scene and are investigating the case.
