Mangaluru: The team from Mangalore University emerged victorious and the Deputy Commissioner (DC) team was the runner-up at the Friendship Cricket Tournament organised at the Nehru Maidan on Wednesday, October 2.
The tournament was organised by the Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists Union (DKDWJU) in memory of video journalist Late Nagesh Padu (who recently died of dengue) on the occasion of the 150th birthday anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
A total of seven teams participated in the tournament. While Sudheer of the DC’s team won the ‘man of the series’ award, Sandeep of the Mangalore University team bagged the ‘man of the match’ award. Mallikarjun Swamy and Kiran of the Mangalore University team emerged as the best bowler and best batsman, respectively.
Karavali Group of Education Chairman Ganesh Rao presented the trophy and awards to the winning teams. He also promised to extend help towards the family of Late Nagesh Padu.
The tournament was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh. DKDWJU president Srinivas Nayak Indaje presided over the programme.
Commissioner of Police Dr P S Harsha, DCP Arunamshu Giri, Superintendent of Police Lakshmi Prasad, Dakshina Kannada district Athletics Association president Manjunath Bhandary and others were present.
