Mangaluru: In a shocking incident that came to light recently, the assistant priest of a well-renowned temple, has been accused of allegedly raping a 19-year-old girl and impregnating her.

The accused is identified as Harischandra Rao alias Appu Bhat, a resident of Kateel.

The incident came to light when the victim lodged a complaint at Bajpe police station alleging that she was raped by the priest, and that she is now six months pregnant.

According to the complaint filed, the accused priest had allegedly raped the girl in August 2015 when she had gone to work in his house. She further alleged that he had threatened to kill her if she disclosed the matter to others.

It has also been said by sources that Rao had allegedly taken the girl to a private hospital in Mangaluru for abortion fearing that the incident may come to light. This information however, has not been confirmed.

It is also learnt that Rao has a daughter who is of the same age as the sexually exploited girl. Rao’s wife committed suicide four months ago by hanging, reportedly as she was frustrated due to her ill health.

However, locals believe that the priest was involved in the death of his wife.
