Mangaluru: “There will be no rationing of water this year as there is enough water for the next 50 days stored at the Thumbe vented dam,” informed Mayor Divakar Pandeshwar on Thursday, April 16.
He was speaking to the reporters after inspecting the water level at the Thumbe vented dam, which is the only source of drinking water for the whole of Mangaluru city. “There was no sufficient water in the dam last year and the MCC was releasing drinking water once in two days. But this year, such a situation will not arise and the stored water is quite enough for the drinking water needs of the people of Mangaluru for the next 50 days,” he said.
MCC Commissioner Shanady Ajith Kumar Hegde said, “By this time last year, the MCC had filled the Thumbe dam twice by releasing water from the AMR dam. But this year, the first filling of the dam was done on March 16, by releasing water from AMR dam. There is no need to release water now as the stored water is quite sufficient.”
MCC joint commissioner Santhosh Kumar, engineers Naresh Shenoy, Ravishankar and Richard D’Souza were present.
