Mangaluru: The decision to name Surathkal Junction after Veera Savarkar has got widespread opposition from Congress and other political parties which is unfortunate as Savarkar is not an anti-national, said BJP District President Sudarshan Moodbidri.
Speaking to media persons here on Monday November 8, Sudarshan said that he did not find anything wrong in naming Surathkal Junction after Savarkar for he is not an anti-national as he is projected. Only Britishers knew what Savarkar was unlike Congressmen and Communists that is why he was given Kalapani punishment. It is surprising that same people have no issues when the roads or places are named after foreigners, and invaders, he observed.
As per State BJP Chief Nalin Kumar Kateel’s wishes a road was named after Mulky Sundarram Shetty, and despite being a local leader, Congress had reservations over that too, he recollected and added that there are plans to name roads or places after George Fernandes, Rani Abbakka and Srinivas Mallya among others in the future.
Sudarshan said that while Congress took to streets in protest, BJP walked on streets to do public service. Congress is saying that BJP reduced fuel prices in Karnataka as it lost the bypolls but in reality Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had already hinted about reducing the fuel prices. The Congress that is mocking us infact has reduced the fuel prices in the State they are in power,” he added.
