Mangaluru: Demanding the withdrawal of the Transgender Bill- 2018, the members of the third genders under the aegis of Nava Sahaja Samudaya staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Friday, December 21.
The protesters urged the government to secure the livelihoods of the transgenders before implementing any Act. Before imposing any rules, the government should extend us its helping hand to acquire skills and secure jobs”, they urged.
“Most transgenders are over 50 years of age and all they have done over the years is sex work and begging. If the government prevents them from doing sex work or begging, it would cause an adverse impact on the livelihood of the transgenders,” they stressed.
