Mangaluru: “Traditions and modernization must go hand-in-hand. Unfortunately, it is going the other way round. Our Indian culture and tradition, art and literature date back to ancient times. Such a rich heritage, in the current scenario, is damaged by western influence. At this juncture, it is happy to note that our ancient folk sport ‘Kambala’ is being supported by people who are rooted in our culture and tradition. The best example for this is ‘Mangaluru Kambala’ that is organized in Bangrakuloor,” said the Mangaluru Kambala committee.

In a press release on Thursday, January 23, the committee said, “The third year of the day and night ‘Mangaluru Kambala’ will be organized under the leadership of founder-chairman of the MRG Group, K Prakash Shetty (honorary president of Mangaluru Kambala) and president of the Mangaluru Kambala Committee Captain Brijesh Chowta. The event will be inaugurated on Saturday, January 25, at 9.30 am and the formal programme will be held in the evening at 6 pm. On Sunday, January 26, the event will conclude with a prize distribution ceremony at 8 am.”

“Several Union ministers and other dignitaries are expected to be part of the event,” the press note added.

MLA Umanath Kotian, president of Mangaluru Kambala Captain Brijesh Chowta, principle secretary Sujith Pratap, conveners Kishore Kumar Puttur and Santyaguttu Sabin Shetty and others were present.
