Mangaluru: If agriculture is gamble with monsoon, fishing is undoubtedly gamble with life and luck. The fishermen who risk their lives to venture into the sea, sometimes return with huge catch and sometimes return home disappointed. Perils in the sea sometimes puts their lives at risk, but pangs of stomach compels these fishermen to venture into sea without planning their sail.
To help the fishermen ensure that their hard work is rewarded with good catch, an app has been developed, which identifies locations in the sea where the catch would be on higher side.
MS Swaminathan of Research Foundation has prepared this fishermen-friendly application. This is also a new revolution in the area of fishing. This application is in Kannada, English, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and various other languages. This application is available in playstore for free.
The Central Marine Fisheries Research institute has installed this application on mobile phones of fishermen on pilot basis in DK, Udupi and Karwar.
The application updates the availability of fish on the surface of the sea, which helps the fishermen save time and fuel.
Another highlight of the app is that it also helps detect changes in sea and weather conditions, thereby ensuring safety of the fishermen.
