Three-day annual fruit and flower show inaugurated at Kadri park

Mangaluru: The three-day annual fruit and flower show, organised by the Department of Horticulture, Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, district administration and Siri Horticulture Association, was inaugurated at Kadri Park on Saturday, January 26, at 11 AM.

Inaugurating the show, Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister U T Khader informed that plans are being made to set up various projects from the Kundapur to the Kasargod district in order to attract more tourists to the coastal region. “A feasibility study will also be conducted shortly, to take up developmental works in this regard. The state government will also earmark funds for such developmental works in the next budget,” he said.

The highlight of the flower show was a shipping boat made out of carnations, chrysanthemums and roses. A demo on hand gardening and terrace gardening is also being conducted during the show. There is also an exhibition of nursery owners, farm implements, seeds and fertilisers, organic products, horticultural products and value-added projects. One can also expect to see a demonstration on drip irrigation, hydroponics (growing plants without soil by using mineral nutrient solutions in a water solvent), a model of apiculture, mushroom cultivation and cut flowers. Over 80 stalls will be selling flower seeds, organic and horticulture products.

Entry tickets have been priced at Rs 20 for adults and Rs 10 for children. However, school children accompanied by their teachers and the differently-abled will be allowed to enter the exhibition for free.
