Sullia: A heated debate and chaos was the highlight of the day’s meeting that took place to address the needs of the backward class and tribes at the Town Municipal Council hall. Everyone present knew the laws but none were sure about who would implement the same, at the meeting held in Sullia on Novemeber 19.
In the meeting chaired by Tahsildar A M Ganesh, Sullia Taluk Panchyath Chief Executive Officer said, new bore wells could be dug with the government sanctioned amount with prior permission from the deputy commissioner. Private borewells dug without approval can invite criminal cases against the violators, CEO warned.

To make matters worse, Guthigaru Gram Panchayath President Achyuth Guthigaru cited an incident. He said borewell vehicles seized by police were let off next morning despite the panchayat development officer registering the complaint at Subramanya police station.

To clear the doubts, Taluk Panchayath CEO reiterated that a criminal case could be registered against the persons digging unauthorised borewells based on the complaint lodged by the PDO and subsequently police can seize the vehicle.

It was more like, beating around the bush!

Another member Gulabi said an unauthorised borewell had been dug at Konadkapadav in Jalsoor station limits where many SC and ST families reside. Since these families were facing water problems, the same could be resolved with electric connection to the unauthorised borewell. But Mescom had instructed not to provide electric connections to unauthorised bore wells, she complained.

None knew the future course of action!

Public Burial Ground too Not Spared

Ashok Guthigaru hinted at land grabbing in Guthigaru where the place meant for public burial was acquired. Tahsildar instructed the PDO to clear the unauthorised acquisition in consultation with police department. GP president also hinted at government land acquisition to the extent of 12 acres in Kalanja and requested officials to provide the same to SC and ST community members.

Speech and Hearing Impaired Youth Cheated, alleges member Narayana Jattipalla

Another member Narayana Jattipalya cited an instance where a speech and hearing impaired youth was cheated while renovating his petty shop. This youth from Shanthinagar was granted Rs 70,000 by Ambedkar Nigama but the garage which carried out the works completed the entire job within Rs 9000 and denied youth his share. An advance of Rs 5000 was made to the garage he cited and demanded strict action against the garage owner and urged that the the recovered amount be handed over to the deprived youth. Sub Inspector H V Chandrashekhar present in the meeting assured of action, if an official complaint was lodged.
