Surathkal: Close on the heels of the Surathkal toll gate starting toll collection, the KSRTC buses have already hiked the fare.

While the KSRTC has hiked the fare of Express buses by Rs 5, it has increased the Volvo, deluxe, semi deluxe, sleeper, and air-conditioned buses fare by Rs 6.

The Volvo buses are to pay Rs 230 per day at the NH-66 toll gate. Even if 10 KSRTC volvos ply on this route, they company has to pay Rs 2,300 per day.

The decision of hiking the fare, as per KSRTC sources came in following instructions received from the Central Office in Bengaluru.

The locals feel that the hike was not necessary as the KSRTC can recover the toll amount with the existing cost in just one trip.

The commuters taking the Manipal-Mangaluru route daily have been cracking their knuckles anticipating a steep hike in private bus fare soon.
