Mangaluru: Mangaluru city has been receiving several facelifts over the past few years, with several developmental works still in progress. However, as there is no proper supervisory authority, many developmental projects have been damaged either due to substandard work or by irresponsible members of the general public.
Recently, a steel guard was erected on Bridge Road, which is a one-way path in Balmatta next to Hotel Goldfinch. Heavy vehicles, buses, lorries and other large vehicles are not allowed to pass through this road and the steel guard ensures that only smaller vehicles can pass.
However, this steel guard was knocked down by a heavy truck a few days ago and so far, it has not been set right. Those who hold the responsibility of fixing the damaged guard seem to be in a deep sleep.
Social activist Gerald Towers, shedding light on the negligence of the MCC, took to Facebook with images of the damaged steel guard and urged the MCC to see to its repairs.
Speaking to Newskarnataka.com over the phone, MCC Commissioner Shanady Ajith Kumar Hegde admitted that the guard was damaged after the steel gate was knocked down by a heavy truck. “I have already informed the Mangaluru Smart City Limited ( MSCL) about the issue and have asked them to start the repairs,” he said.
The Bridge Road white-topping project comes under the Smart City project. Other roads such as the Balmatta New Road, the stretch between PVS and Karnataka Bank, Kadri and Milagres crossroads were also upgraded under this project at a cost of Rs 8 crores. However, the work has been going on at a slow pace for the past one and a half years.
