Mangaluru: A seminar on the subject, “Tulu language- Teaching Opportunities and Challenges in Primary and High Schools” will be organised at St. Aloysius College (SAC), Mangalore on February 6, under the joint auspices of the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy and SAC, Mangalore.
The government has ordered Tulu to be taught as third language in schools across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. However, the Tulu Learning Programme is limited to few schools, although many students are keen to learn this language in government schools as a third language. There are few technical issues related to its implementation. To overcome the obstacles, Tulu Sahitya Academy has decided to organise a seminar for teachers of primary and high school on literary development and their role in it.
Deputy Director of Public Instruction Department, Dakshina Kannada District, Y Shivaramaiah will inaugurate the seminar on February 6 at 9.30 AM. A C Bhandari, Chairman of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Akademi will preside over the function. Fr. Praveen Martis, Principal of St. Aloysius College, Mangalore and Dr. A M Narahari, Registrar will be the chief guests at the event. Folk Scholar Dr. Gananath Ekkar will be the main resource person and Prabhakar Neermarga, member of the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, will brief on Tulu text teaching process.
Block Education Officer (BEO) Manjula K L will preside over the valedictory function scheduled at 1.30 PM, where Dr. Meenakshi, Head of Kannada Department in Besant College, Mangalore, will be the chief guest. Durga Menon, a member of the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy will be the convenor during the day’s event, stated a press release issued by Registrar B Chandrahas Rai on behalf of the Tulu Sahitya Academy.
