Mangaluru: Taking a cue from the success of the #NammaMetroHindiBeda Twitter campaign that forced the BMRCL to take down Hindi signages from various Metro stations, several youth from Tulunadu too will be starting a twitter campaign demanding inclusion of the Tulu language in the eighth schedule of the Constitution.
The #TuluTo8thSchedule campaign, which is being led by the Jai Tulunad will be open from from 6 am to 9 pm on Thursday, August 10.
Acknowledging the fact that social media platform serves as a great tool to draw the attention of several people towards a cause, the organisation decided to take to Twitter hoping to turn this into a mass movement and thereby draw attention of the leaders of the Union and the State government towards the long-pending demand. The organisation is expecting around 15000-20000 tweets. These tweets will be sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Siddaramiah, Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, as Kerala too has a Tulu-speaking population.
The need for the campaign has arisen since all requests and memorandums submitted to the prime minister and chief minister earlier has not yielded any outcome. Notably several Tulu celebrities too have extended their support for the cause.
