Mangaluru: Following the twin murder case at Mangaluru Jail, the higher officials have suspended the Jail superintendent and 4 cops here, on Saturday November 7.
Two jail inmates were killed and over ten suffered injuries in a major fight that erupted in Mangaluru district jail during breakfast on Monday, November 2.
Madoor Yusuf, a notorious criminal and his associate Ganesh Shetty were killed in the jail. The injured inmates were admitted to Wenlock Hospital. Few of them have been identified as Pradeep Vamanjoor, Umesh Kombar, Yuvraj Soorinje, Asif and Iqbal.
It is said that the men were equipped with weapons. Police sources stated that there were brawls between the two gangs in the past few days.
Yusuf, wanted in several murder cases, including the murder of the then BJP member Sukhanand Shetty, was arrested in 2010 by the Interpol in Riyadh and brought to Mangaluru. Ganesh Shetty, a sharpshooter, was arrested in 2010 in connection with the 1994 Mahendra Pratap murder case.
ADGP and IGP (prisons) Kamal Pant on Tuesday, November 3, visited the jail and held a detailed enquiry. Also, Home minister G Parameshwara has sought a detailed report on the case.
An under-trial named Faizal, who was being taken to the court, is said to have informed the reporters that the jail staff had abetted the murders.
