Mangaluru: Two persons, both connected to the Popular Front of India have been arrested in connection to Sharath Madiwal murder case.

Addressing the news conference on Tuesday, IGP (Western Range) P Harisekaran said that arrested are Abdul Shazi (36) from Haladi of Sajipa Munnuru of Bantwal taluk and Khaleelullah (30) from Chamarajanagar.

Khaleelullah is the Chamarajanagar district president of PFI while Abdul Shazi is the member of the PFI.

While talks of Sharath Madiwal having been murdered to avenge Ashraf Kalai’s killing are making rounds, the IGP said it was pre mature to link the two. However, he said that four to five persons connected to the case are at large.

Calling it to be one of the challenging cases, he said that the special team formed by the police comprising of 30 special officers, under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Sushil Reddy visited several places including Karwar, border areas of Maharashtra, Tamilnadu, Kerala, Bengaluru and Chamarajanagar in hunt for the accused.

The arrested were produced before the court and are presently in police custody.

It may be recalled that, 28-year-old Sharath, an RSS worker was assaulted by unidentified men on July 4. He was shifted to hospital by his friend, Abdul Rauf, fruit stall vendor who has known Sharath for nearly 14 years. However, Sharath succumbed to injuries on July 8 after battling for life for three days. Since then demand for handing over Sharath murder case and several Hindu activists’ killing cases to the NIA gained momentum.
