Undertrials booked for extorting money from cellmates

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Police Commissioner T R Suresh on January 24 informed that the city Police have booked eight people, including five undertrails in connection with threatening, assaulting and extorting Rs 15 Lakh from a bank official and two others in Mangaluru district prison.

Police have registered case against Mithun Kalladka, Tilak Raj of Akash Bhavan, Raju alias Rajesh of Farangipet, Shivaraj of Kotekar, Nikhil of Kannur, Charan of Kulai in Mangaluru, Anoop Kumar of Kodical, Manoj alias Kodikere Manoj of Jokatte.

The police commissioner revealed that Sijo (former employee in a private bank), Sunil and Jerry Paul who are in judicial custody for allegedly diverting Rs 55 Crore belonging to Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Ltd by fraudulent means. The trio was assaulted by the accused cellmates demanding ransom..

“The accused attacked,threatened and forced his parents to pay Rs 15 Lakh as ‘protection money.'”

“Tilak Raj, Raju alias Rajesh, Shivaraj of Kotekar and Nikhil are already behind the bars in various criminal cases. They have assaulted Sijo, Sunil and Jerry Paul demanding Rs 15 Lakh extortion”, stated police commissioner.

The three accused who played the role in the crime, Charan, Anoop Kumar and Manoj alias Kodikere Manoj are still at large.

The family members of Sijo had transferred money to accused Charan’s account and the accused shared the money among themselves, commissioner added.
