Mangaluru: MLA and former minister U T Khader has attacked the Union Government for taking Rs 1.76 lakh crores from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) instead of bringing the black money back from the Swiss Banks.

Speaking to reporters at the district Congress office on Friday, August 30, Khader said that this is the first time since the emergency period, that the Union Government has taken such a large sum of money from the RBI. “The BJP had promised that it would bring the black money back from the Swiss Banks, if it was voted to power. However, it seems that it has forgotten its own promise and has taken a large sum of money from the RBI. The government should reveal to the public the reason for taking the money and where it has been spent. It is the right of every individual to know the facts,” he said.

He then alleged that after the BJP came to power at the Centre, the growth of the economy has slowed down and no investors are coming forward to invest in the country. The intelligence department has also failed miserably as there are rumours that some terrorists have entered the coastal region. “If the government has taken the utmost care when it comes to security measures, how can a terror group enter the coastal region?” he asked.

Khader also blamed the state’s BJP MLAs and MPs for not convincing the Union Government to release compensation for the flood victims. “Even though a team from the Central Government came to the state to assess the damages to property suffered during the recent floods, they have not visited our district. Over 27 families in Pachanady and Mandara became homeless after the landslide at the Pachanady dumping yard. Even though a month has passed since then, the district administration has still not taken it seriously. The residents of that area are still confused as to whether or not they will be able to live on their own land. The government should respond to their grievances immediately,” Khader urged.

Congress leaders Mithun Rai, Sadashiv Ullal, Ishwar Ullal, Santhosh Kumar Shetty, Vishwas Kumar Das, Mohammed Monu, Ganesh Poojary and others were present.
