Mangaluru: First Neuro Hospital in Padil and its surroundings have been declared an active containment zone after a 75-year-old patient (number 432) tested positive for COVID-19.
Reportedly, the patient who tested positive is the mother-in-law of the 50-year-old woman from Bantwal who died of Coronavirus on April 19.
The order was issued by the district disaster management authority that was set up by the state government under the National Disaster Management Act (NDMA) of 2005.
Reportedly, the containment area is bound by Kannada Gudde, Mangaluru City Corporation Road on the East, Ramanatha Kripa Rice Mill on the West, Bengaluru National Highway 73 on the North and Government Gutter on the South.
The containment zone comprises two residential houses and five shops/offices. There are a total of 16 people living in the containment zone.
A buffer zone of 5 kms has also been set up around the containment zone with Kallapu (East), Kudupu (West), Farangipete (North), and Falnir (South) as the boundaries.
The buffer zone has a total of 41,900 residential houses, 1,808 shops/ offices and a population of about 1,82,500 people.
The Tahsildar and Taluk Magistrate of the Mangaluru Taluk has been appointed as the incident commander and will be the overall in-charge of the containment zone. Necessary steps will be taken by the incident commander for the effective implementation of the COVID-19 control measures.
On March 16, the 75-year-old woman was admitted to First Neuro Hospital after she suffered a stroke. Her daughter-in-law, Dakshina Kannada district’s first COVID-19 victim, visited her every day from April 2 onwards. It can be recalled that she died on Sunday, April 19.
The staff and doctors of the hospital have also been quarantined.
