Mangaluru: Minister for Urban Development and Housing and Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Minister U T Khader said that the department of urban development would come up with new rules to regulate homestays and Paying Guest (PG) accommodations shortly.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, June 5, Khader said , “Though there are guidelines under the department of tourism, it has not succeeded in regulating the functioning of homestays and paying guest accommodations so far. Hence, the department of urban development would draft guidelines in this regard shortly. Those who run homestays and paying guest accommodations should provide basic amenities to the people which is lacking in the existing set-ups. Hence, the new guidelines would ensure that the owners to follow it properly.”
Paying property tax to be online soon
Khader said. “As there is a demand for payment of property tax online, necessary measures have already been taken in this regard. If everything goes according to the plan, paying property tax online will materialise soon”, Khader added.
Drinking water enough until Jun 10
Regarding the delay in monsoon and drinking water problem, Khader said that the stored water at Thumbe vented dam would suffice till June 10 and the existing water rationing would be continued. “According to the meteorological department, monsoon is expected to arrive at the coast on June 7 or 8. If the monsoon is delayed further, proper measures would be taken to provide drinking water to all. All the 60 corporation wards will be provided tankers to supply drinking water to all the residents. All wells and borewells will be utilised to provide water to the people”, he added.
