Mangaluru: As the traffic offences like using mobile phones while driving, parking of vehicles in non-designated areas among others, have been increasing, the government has increased the penalty for these violations recently. As per the new system of penalty, using mobile phones while driving, parking vehicles in no parking areas, overspeeding and driving vehicles without licence, each will invite a fine of to Rs 1,000.

During the weekly phone-in-programme on Friday, July 5, Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil informed that the fine had been increased considering the increase in the number of traffic violations. “A notification has been issued in this regard and people should stop violating traffic guidelines if they don’t want to pay penalty,” he said.

Complaints also poured in with regard to the school vehicles which ferry more children than their specified limit. Responding to it, Patil assured of taking action against such offenders. If the public informs the traffic police about such vehicles, it will be easy for the police to track the offenders and take action against them, he added.

Meanwhile, complaints with regard to nuisance by the drunkards in public places, non-issuance of tickets by the private buses among others came up during the meeting, against which Patil assured of appropriate measures.

DCP (Crime and Traffic) Laxmi Ganesh, DCP (Law and Order) Hanumantharaya and ACP (Traffic) Manjunath Shetty were present.
