Mangaluru: The newly constructed Kanachur Rural Health Centre at Pilikoor near Thalapady was formally inaugurated by Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister U T Khader on Sunday, June 30.
After inaugurating the health centre U T Khader said, “Kanachur Rural health centre has come as a boon to the residents of Pilikoor and other surrounding areas. People should take care of their health even when they are healthy. The special offers like free OPD Consultations, specialist consultations among others should be best utilised by the public”, he said.
He lauded the efforts of U K Monu, president of Kanachur Medical College Hospital and Research Centre for his selfless service in both education and health sector. “If U K Monu would have constructed the health care centre in prime areas of Puttur or Bantwal, he could have benefited more. But, he decided to set up health centre at Pilikoor only as he loves this place a lot. Government would extend all possible help towards the pro-people programmes of Kanachur institutions”, Khader added.
The pharmacy of the health centre was inaugurated by Thalapady Gram Panchayath president Suresh Alva. District Health Officer Dr M Ramakrishna Rao inaugurated the laboratory of the hospital and Pilikoor Gram Panchayath member Akshatha Pilikoor inaugurated the blood donation camp.
U K Monu, while addressing the gathering informed that he has a great concern for Pilikoor as it was the birthplace of his mother. ” I thought that my mother’s soul would get peace if I would contribute to her birthplace. Hence, I opted Pilikoor to set up health centre,” he informed and urged people to utilise this service.
This health centre covers a population of approximately 17,000 people, ensuring basic free health care services to all needy people in and around the region. It offers different services including free OPD consultations, specialist consultations, minor emergency treatment procedures, immunisations among others. Medical camps, blood donation camps, health awareness campaigns, all in lines of national level guidelines into communicable and non-communicable diseases will be conducted at the centre.
Kanachur Medical College Dean Dr H S Virupaksha, assistant dean Dr Shreesha Khandige, director Abdul Rahman, administrative officer Dr Rohan Monis, medical superintendent Dr Deviprasad Shetty, chief priest of Durgaparameshwari temple, Devipura Ganesh Bhat, Sharada Group of Institutions president M B Puranik among others were present.
