Mangaluru: “Though there is a plan to set up an international level swimming pool in Mangaluru city, no proper land is available in the city area. However, the government is on the lookout for a land for the project”, said Minister for Urban Development and Housing and Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Minister U T Khader on Saturday, February 16.
He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the renovated swimming pool and advanced water purification plant at Mangala Swimming Pool, located near Mangala stadium. Khader said that after identifying the land, an international level swimming pool would be built in Mangaluru. “There is also a plan to organise international level swimming competition here”, he said.
MLC and Chief Minister’s Parliamentary Secretary Ivan D’Souza informed that the swimming pool was renovated at a cost of Rs 1.5 Crore. “It is the first-ever swimming pool with an advanced water purification plant in the entire state”, he said.
The Mangala Swimming Pool was built 32 years ago. The same was renovated at a cost of Rs 1.5 Crore. The water storing capacity of this swimming pool is 25 lakh litres. Water purification is being done using four pumps with ozone technology. Water is being stored in this swimming pool at 3 feet to 16 feet in depth.
Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath, Mayor Bhaskar K, Deputy Mayor Mohammed K, MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer, Chief Whip Shashidhar Hegde, opposition leader Premananda Shetty among others were present.
