Mangaluru: MLA and former minister U T Khader condemned the state government for using the ‘Labour Welfare Fund’ to provide compensation to the victims of natural disasters and termed such a move as ‘anti-labour’.
Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, September 28, Khader said, “Although 25 BJP MPs have been elected from Karnataka, they have failed to convince the Union Government to release compensation to the flood victims. By claiming that there is a shortage of funds, the state government is now planning to use the Labour Welfare Fund to pay the compensation amount. I strongly condemn this move.”
Khader stated that though Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa tried to make an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to convince him to release immediate compensation, he was denied a meeting with the PM. “We don’t want to insult Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa with regard to the receipt of compensation from the Union Government. Though I am from a different political party, I will support Yediyurappa for the sake of development,” he added.
Meanwhile, Khader clarified that there is no misunderstanding between the leaders of the Congress party and that they are all united. “The BJP is trying to create misunderstandings between the Congress leaders, which will not yield them any positive results,” he assured.
Stating that he is not an aspirant for the post of district Congress president, Khader said, “The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) leaders have already gathered information from the party workers and will select a suitable candidate for the post. I have never been an aspirant for the post and I will never be one.”
