Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Minister U T Khader released the logo of the River Fest at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Tuesday, January 1.
The River Fest is scheduled at Bangra Kuloor on January 12 and 13. Khader, after releasing the logo said, “The intention of the fest is to create awareness about the tourism potentials of the Dakshina Kannada district and protect our rivers. The local administration should extend its helping hand towards organising river fests in the Taluk level also.”
Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner S Sasikanth Senthil said that the district administration was focusing on river and its banks for the first time this year. “A total of 20 acres of land at Bangra Kuloor has already been identified for organising the River Fest. People can access Bangra Kuloor from Sultan Battery, Thannirbavi and Kuloor through boats. Access through road would be banned although there is a connectivity”, he informed.
“During the two-day River Fest, there will be various programmes like water sports and cultural programmes. The government has released Rs 25 Lakh and we need the cooperation of the public for the success of the fest”, Senthil added.
Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Dr. R Selvamani, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kumar, Commissioner of Police T R Suresh, MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazir and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) Uma Prashanth among others were present.
