Mangaluru: A special meeting organised to discuss the precautionary measures needed to be taken in the district witnessed heated arguments between the BJP and Congress MLAs on Wednesday, April 29.
This verbal battle erupted between Congress MLA U T Khader and BJP MLA D Vedavyas Kamath in the presence of Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary.
During the meeting, MLA Khader had charged that the district administration’s decision was not being implemented properly due to the interference of the BJP MLAs. As an example, he cited the recent confusion over the cremation of the Covid-19 victims, where the locals objected to the cremation in their area and even received support from some of the BJP MLAs.
Enraged by the accusation, Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath argued with Khader and accused him of transporting people despite the ongoing lockdown. He also claimed that he has evidence to back his allegations.
Adding fuel to the fire, MLC Ivan D’Souza alleged that Vedavyas Kamath also violated the lockdown guidelines by supporting the movement of trucks that transport sand and other materials.
Minister Kota soon intervened and brought the discussion back on track.
