Mangaluru: The Mangaluru police have arrested 11 accused in connection with the brutal murder of Korapadi Gra Panchayat Vice President Abdul Jaleel.
Rajesh Naik, a resident of Karopadi Mithanadka, Narasimha Shetty of Mani, Prajwal Shetty of Belandoor, Pushparaj, Sachin of Savanoor, Keshava of Veerakamba, Puneeth of Savanoor, Prashanth of Krishnapura Surathkal, Vachan, Roshan of Barepadi in Puttur and Sathish Rai of Kanyana are the accused arrested, said IGP K Harishekaran.
IGP also stated that police had confiscated two bikes, one Omni van and two machetes used in the crime. Five special teams were constituted under SP Gulabushan Borse. Rajesh Naik, a rowdy sheeter, has four cases against him in Vittal Police station, Narasimha Shetty two and Sathish Rai, a rowdy sheeter in Vittal police station has four against him in the same jurisdiction.
Rajesh Naik held a grudge against deceased Abdul Jaleel as he assumed that the latter had made efforts to register cases against him in various instances in the Vittal police station limits.
Role of underworld fugitive Vicky Shetty in the murder
Dinesh Shetty, cousin of underworld fugitive Vicky Shetty was an aspirant for the post of vice president of Korapadi Gram panchayat during the elections for the same held in 2015. Vicky Shetty had also backed Dinesh Shetty’s dream but Jaleel shattered it. There was always a rift between Dinesh Shetty and Jaleel while taking decision on issues related to gram panchayat. Vicky Shetty always tried to have his decisions implemented through Dinesh Shetty over phone but Jaleel never let it happen. This irked Vicky Shetty and he decided to finish Jaleel.
Vicky Shetty made several international phone calls to Rajesh Naik exerting pressure on him to eliminate Jaleel.
IGP also said there were several murder cases against Vicky Shetty and that enough evidences were available to arrest Vicky Shetty under COCA (Control of Organized Crime Act). Presently Vicky Shetty is absconding and the police are gathering information about him.
