Victims of a Pachanady landslide will receive compensation tomorrow

Mangaluru: It has been almost one and a half years since the dreadful landslide happened at the Pachanady dumping yard where the garbage from the city gets accumulated. At last, the victims of a landslide caused due to solid waste on August 06, 2019, will receive compensation.

As many as 27 families were totally suffered and 40 families of Mandara village too partially affected by this disaster. The District Administration Mangalore Maha Nagara Palike in association with Karnataka Housing Board shifted 25 families to its Housing complex and these people are still living there.

However, Corporation released compensation to the agricultural land. But, due to delay in releasing of compensation to those lost land and houses are put to lots of difficulties. Later a Suo moto Public Interest Litigation [PIL] was filed by the District Legal Service Authority [DLSA] before the Hon’ble High Court of Karnataka. Hon’ble High Court responded by passing an interim order to pay the compensation immediately.

Accordingly, under the Chairmanship of KS Shilpa, Senior Civil Judge, and the members of DLSA, a meeting was conducted in the Office Deputy Commissioner, and as per the advice of Secretary, DLSA a decision has been taken to distribute interim compensation as per the rate fixed for the land and houses.

Pursuant to this on today at 3.00 PM Senior Civil Judge, Secretary DLSA will verify the documents pertaining to the Solid waste victims at District Court Complex (Old Building) Mangalore and compensation will be distributed to those who provide required documents. Says, Secretary DSLA in its release. In order to provide Legal aid for the victims, a panel of five Advocates including Chandrahas Kottary, Raghavendra Rao, Anitha Kini has been appointed. The victims of Mandara have appreciated the work of DLSA.
