Mangaluru: Shree Nithyananda Yogashrama of Kondevoor in Uppala, Kasargod district is organising the first ever ‘Vishwajith Athiratra Somayaga’ from February 18 to 24 intended at the well-being of all humanity. This Somayaga is a yajna (ritual ) performed for appeasing the celestial entities in Hinduism.

This religious programme working president and former MLC K Monappa Bhandary told reporters here on Tuesday, February 12 that the yaga will be held on a sprawling area of 7000 sq ft, at Kondevoor Yogashrama. This yaga emphasises the bonding between human beings, animals and nature. Hence, during the rituals, animals like horse, cattle, frog, goat, tortoise among others will be kept near the venue . The rituals will be held under the guidance of Shibaroor Vedavyasa Tantri. The items required for the yaga rituals like ghee, honey, vegetables, fruits among others will be prepared by the residents of Kondevoor only. However, an important item ‘Somarasa’ which is very essential for the rituals will be brought from Ladakh, he informed.

“A Horekanike (offerings) procession from Mangaluru will be taken out from Kadri temple on February 17, which will be flagged off by A J Hospital and Research Centre Managing Director A J Shetty. Those who want to offer ‘horekanike’ to Nithyananda Yogashrama can approach Sharavu Mahaganapati temple, Brahma Baidarkala Garadi temple in Naguri and Veera Maruti Vyayama Shale in Ullal”, Bhandary informed.

Somayajna is intended to cleanse the atmosphere so that it becomes medicinal, nutritious and disease-free, yielding a qualitative and quantitative improvement in life, it is believed. During the valedictory programme of Somayaga which is scheduled on February 24, union ministers Suresh Prabhu, Shripad Yesso Naik, former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and other leaders K S Eeshwarappa, Sriramulu among others will participate, he informed.
