Vision 2017: Saanidhya’s initiative for the mentally challenged

Mangaluru: Sanidhya Special School for Mentally Challenged has organised a two-day programme titled “Vision-2017” to showcase the talent of special children as well as seek support for its ongoing projects.

As part of vision–2017, an arts and crafts exhibition has been arranged at Kadri Park on March 4 and 5, where the artefacts created by the special children of the school will be on display.

The programme will be inaugurated by the Chief Whip of Karnataka Legislative Council Ivan D’Souza. General Manager of Canara Bank, Mangaluru Circle K Virupaksha will be the chief guest.

On the next day, “Sanidhya Utsava”, a cultural programme has been planned, where the special school children will enact a Yakshagana play titled “Mahishi Moksha” and a skit titled “Amar Jawan.” The evening programme on March 5, will be inaugurated by Mangaluru South Member of Legislative Assembly J R Lobo. Women and Child Development Officer of Dakshina Kannada Sundara Poojary, Paralympian and Arjuna awardee Dr. Malathi Holla, Officer for Empowerment of Disabled in Dakshina Kannada Shobha and businessman Mansoor Ahmed will be the chief guests.

Retired officer for empowerment of disabled (Dakshina Kannada) Annapoorna and Kadri traffic division Head Constable Babu Shetty will be felicitated on the occasion.

Work on Sanidhya Shashwatha, a permanent home for the mentally challenged is in progress and the institution looks for support from donors for early completion of the project.

Sanidhya special school which started with a mere two kids in 2003, now has a strength of over 150 mentally challenged children in its rolls. The residential school has over 50 teaching and non-teaching staff and is making relentless efforts to provide a platform for the mentally challenged children to enter the mainstream by encouraging their innate talents.
