Mangaluru: Anjaneya Reddy – a well-known activist from the Chikkaballapur region, who has been fighting for drinking and irrigation water needs in the dry areas of Kolar, under the banner of Shashwata Neeravari Horata Samiti, was present in the city on Sunday, October 4.

He discussed the crucial aspect of the region with reference to the most controversial Yettinahole project, which is scheduled to benefit the Kolar region and affect the Dakshina Kannada district.

In a talk organized by the Karavali Jeevanadi Netravati Samrakshana Samiti, Reddy said that people of his region would not want Dakshina Kannada to face water crisis because of the Yettinahole project, as they do now.

“We are already in pain and we do not want the same kind of crisis to be faced by the people of this region. Because of fluoride in water, people of our region are suffering from diseases. We do not want the Yettinahole project if it is going to affect the people of this region,” Reddy said.

“However, if there is no adverse impact on this region, then we request the people of Dakshina Kannada to cooperate and give us water. Interest of people of both the regions should be taken into consideration. I request all of you to visit Kolar and see the situation there,” he urged.

“Let us not get trapped by people who are misusing this project for political gains. People of neither region should get into friction on this issue,” he added.

Retired IAS officer V V Bhat, Former MLA Vijayakumar Shetty, Prof S G Mayya, Advocate Shankar Bhat, M G Hegde, Purushotham Chitrapur, Denis D’silva, Ajith Rai Malady and others were present.

Meanwhile, Senior Congress leader Janardhan Poojary on Saturday, October 3, said that he has written to Congress president Sonia Gandhi to convey her about the adverse impact of the Yettinahole Drinking Water Project, and that the party high command has directed that the issue should be discussed in detail with Poojary.

According to Poojary, Sonia was surprised and had asked him to get all the details, about all aspects of the project, it is said.
