Mangaluru: The railway ministry at several times have brought up new development ideas for Mangaluru Central. In 2009, Mamata Banerjee the the Railway Minister had formulated a project, considering Mangaluru Central to be a station of “world class” standards.

The stations in Karnataka like Yeshwantpur that were allocated in the 2009 budget and were redeveloped,  in 2014, Dakshina Kannada District Administration recommended developing Mangaluru Junction instead of the Central as it has very less area for development. And again in 2019, Rail Land Development Authority received recommendation regarding developing the Mangalore Junction Railway Station. However, in past these years no development has happened in both the stations.

We can’t completely deny the fact that there is no development happening, despite under the recent development project of Mangaluru Central, a new pit line having 24 coaches is under construction.

According to Public Relations Officer, Kishan “Forming a new division can’t completely improve the current situation, It is true that there have been no developments happening in the station for many years but now the situation has changed with emergency medical booths, lift facilities, new reservation office, bottle crushing machines, and officers restroom being installed over the past few years.”

There are also discussions going on regarding formation of a new platform.

“Although, we can’t deny the fact Mangalore being a major revenue source under Palakkad division, is getting the development it requires, project proposed in 2009 of forming Mangalore into a world class station was one of the best projects that came under discussion,” Kishan observes.
