Speaking to media, Ivan D’Souza thanked the Chief Minister and all other members of his party and said that he was grateful of being given the opportunity. “As an MLC of the ruling party, I raised a lot of questions in the council. I even had 100 per cent attendance. I will not be able to raise questions anymore as I am a part of the government. I will be involved in the parliamentary affairs. I am happy to be appointed as the chief whip”.
“One of my main objectives is getting a drinking water project for Dakshina Kannada district, so that there will be no dearth of water in the district. I have been working on the A G Kodagi report too. The drinking water problem can be solved if the report is implemented. I will be working hard in my new position and ensure that all members will actively participate in the debates,” he said.
Speaking on the rain and its effects on DK district, he said that the district has witnessed good rain but also some destruction. “I have instructed the Deputy Commissioner to take precautions and also deliver help on time where required. Pothole problem will too be taken up. Roads will be repaired. Rs 200 crore worth project is being implemented to prevent sea erosion at Ullal,” he said.
When queried his thoughts about the Central government’s cabinet reshuffle, D’Souza said that, he was expecting portfolios for the ministers from Karnataka. The party infighting in the state BJP had led to that situation, he said.
