Bantwal: A 45-year-old woman was killed in a bike accident here at Kinnikambala in Gurupura on Sunday.
The deceased is identified as Hema, wife of Purandara Acharya a resident of Bhadarybettu in Bantwal.
The couple were on their way to attend a funeral at their relatives’ house in Addoor. They were travelling by bike.
As the bus in front of them applied brakes suddenly, Purandara tried to overtake and avoid hitting it. But at the same time Purandara saw another vehicle coming from the opposite direction and took left and lost control. Consequently, Hema was thrown on the road and suffered severe head injuries.
She breathed her last on the way to the hospital. Purandara too suffered minor injuries and has been admitted in a hospital.
A case has been registered at Bajpe police station.
Hema, was the former president of Bantwal Vishwajyothi Mahila Mandali and was an active member of women associations, She was also a good singer and used to teach music.
She is survived by husband, two sons and a daughter.
