Bantwal: A woman and four of her accomplices were arrested by the Vittal police made on Thursday October 26 in connection to an assault and robbery case of a man who fell prey to the group’s evil plans over Facebook.
Farzana (26), native of Sakleshpur; Ashraf Samsheer (27), a resident of Thokkottu; Zainuddin (21), a resident of Farangipet; Muhammed Iqbal (27), a Thokkottu resident and Ubaidulla (32) from Ullal Mukkacheri were arrested from near Mani Junction within a week of the incident. Two cars, gold and cash worth Rs 7.7 lacs, mobile phones and passports that were found in their possession have been seized by the police.
Case History:
The victim, Mohammed Hanif (32), from Vitlapadnooru, Parthipadi had befriended a girl on Facebook few months ago and was in constant contact with her.
On October 21, the girl called up Hanif and requested financial aid to meet medical expenses of her ailing mother. The two agreed to meet at Mudipu where the girl had come along with one of her friends and asked Hanif to take her friend with him to his house in his car while she would follow them on her scooter.
When Hanif and the girl entered his house, a Tavera carrying accomplices of the woman barged into the residence and assaulted him and took objectionable photos of him with the woman demanding Rs 5 lakhs. Since Hanif refused to pay them, they made off with his valuables, including his passport, gold, a watch, mobile phone and his Swift car.
Acting on the complaint lodged by Hanif the police registered a case and had begun investigations.
